20 Pieces of Sisterly Advice

34

"Many things are good, many are important, but only a few are essential."
- D. Todd Christofferson

They say that when life gets you down, you need to count (write out) your blessings. As I looked over my list, I have to say that the biggest, most rewarding, and at times challenging blessing has been being the older sister to four of the most amazing people. So I figured that rather than writing about my crazy week, I would give 20 pieces of sisterly advice because like Elder Christofferson said, many things are good and important but few are essential.

Nicole's Big Sister Advice

1. Turn to God everyday. He is your solace and guide. He loves you more than you know.

2. Always, and I mean ALWAYS put people first. Before your busy schedule. Before your grades.

3. Everyday is a gift. Embrace each one full-heartedly.

4. It's okay to cry. It doesn't mean you're weak.

5. Call mom and dad often, they love you and want to hear from you.

6. I guarantee you will touch the sky when your knees hit the ground.

7. When you find a pure and unconditional love, hold on to it. Never settle for less than what you deserve.

8. Learn to say no, however hard it may be.

9. Find your passion and make sure to worship God in it.

10. Failing something, whatever it may be, is not the end of the world. It's going to be okay.

11. You matter more than you know. Find people that you matter to and make them the people that matter most to you.

12. Find a healthy outlet for your feelings. For me, it's writing.

13. Be optimistic and always hold on to hope.

14. Do your very best to make good grades but do not make them your life.

15. Someone is going to break your heart. It's going to hurt and it may even feel like the end of the world but it won't be. As you come unto Christ, He will heal your broken heart.

16. Guard your testimony of the gospel. Continually strive to make it stronger.

17. Your body is a gift from God. Take care of it.

18. It's important to build lots of relationships but focus on a few. Find your people--cherish and love them wholeheartedly.

19. Relish on the opportunity you have to foster your gifts.

20. You are child of God and you are stunningly beautiful. Your flaws make you beautiful. You, my dear, are going to do amazing things in this life.

To my siblings,

I may be the oldest but over the years I have learned so much from your examples. I love you forever.
