I realize I haven't written a post in a while and I apologize for that.
So college is amazing so far! I really love it!
Any who, one of the religion classes I'm taking here at the Y is 'Book of Mormon' and one of the assignments we have to do is to publicly share what we got out of the lessons each week.
I have been blessed with having the Book of Mormon my whole life and I do admit there have been times when I have taken this amazing gift for granted. Yet, something Brother Griffin (my professor) mentioned is "why" we have the Book of Mormon. In Mormon 7:9 it states that "... this is written for the intent that ye may believe..." I found this scripture to be very powerful because most if not all of our lives we are told what to do, how to talk, how to eat yet here it clearly states that YOU ("ye") may believe. Not that your mom or dad will convince you to believe. Moreover, we discussed that the four main reasons we have the Book of Mormon in our lives is:
1. Great things are done
- These great things may be answers to prayers we have had for a long time
- It can also mean that we are still capable of changing for the better.
2. To know the covenant
You may be wondering what covenants? Or maybe even, what are covenants? Well a covenant is a sacred promise you make with God. So by reading and truly studying the Book of Mormon we are able to understand the covenants we make when we commit to live the type of Life God wants us to live.
3. To know we are not cast off forever
There may be times when we wonder whether we are still capable of finding redemption or whether the actions of our ancestors will affect our salvation. By reading the Book of Mormon will be able to know these things for ourselves.
4. To convince ALL that Jesus is THE CHRIST
"..for the intent that ye may believe.." How wonderful it is to know that Heavenly Father loves us so much that he would allow for us to have the Book of Mormon in our lives so we can find out all these things or ourself.
All four of these reasons came about so that when the judgement day comes we may be found spotless before The Lord. I know that the Book of Mormon is true not because my parents have told me so but because I have read it and prayed to know if what is written within it is truly from God.
